In honor of Transgender Awareness week, we wanted to highlight some of the contributors in PYP’s newest anthology: The Real Lives of Transgender and Nonbinary Humans. In this collection of stories, each of the contributors share their stories and experiences from when they first realized that they were trans or nonbinary, through the ups and downs of life, to where they are today. Each of the contributors come from different backgrounds and walks of life but they each have a story to tell and each story is a testament to the power of hope, determination, and the possibilities open to everyone when they learn to love and accept themselves for who they really are.
Gavriel Legynd (he/him) is the founder and CEO of Visioneer IT, a marketing and technology empowered and true to themselves. He is also the co-chair of the Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Task Force mentorship committee for the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s (NGLCC), which offers coaching for trans business owners to become a certified LGBTI Business Enterprise. He also serves as the Vice President of the African American Marketing Association and sits on numerous boards. He is a father of four, grandfather of four, a Jew of color, and a proud vegan.
Kai Berzinskas (he/him) is a developmental specialist pursuing a Ph.D. in educational psychology with a concentration in mental health counseling. Kai’s journey has given him the groundwork to fill a void in the lack of therapists catering to the LGBTI community, especially the trans community. His goals are to work specifically with the LGBTI community as a mental health counselor, helping others overcome the struggles of living an authentic life.
Braxton T. Fleming (he/him) is a Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN). He is also the CEO and Founder of Stealth Bros. &Co., an online Luxury Medical supply company that provides personal storage bags for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) supplies, for easy-to-travel and at home use. Started from his room in 2018, Stealth Bros. &Co. continues to grow and serve the transgender community and allies, and even offers a surgery fund for those in the LGBTQ+ community in need. By sharing his experiences, Braxton hopes to inspire other trans people on their journeys and to fill a gap in representation of trans people of color.
Ashley T Brundage (she/her) is the owner of Empowering Differences, a leadership training and public speaking agency. She is a highly sought-after motivational speaker and routinely works with clients on matters of equality and leadership. Through her business, she also specializes in transgender marketing, which empowers businesses to be purposeful in working with trans-owned vendor in their procurement cycles. She has also written her own book, Empowering Differences, which teaches people to use their differences to accelerate their career. As a diversity and inclusion leader, Ashley has helped lead Diversity and Inclusion initiatives for a major financial services institution.
