Lisa is an MFA Fiction candidate for The New School. She earned her bachelor degree in English Writing with honors and a certificate in Editing and Publishing from Loyola University New Orleans. She also works extensively with the New Orleans Review as a Fiction Reader, so there is nothing she hasn’t seen at this point. The south has absolutely stolen her heart, so she currently resides in New Orleans with her family.
A Q&A with the Publish Your Purpose Press Team
1.How did you come to work with PYP?
I found PYP by absolute accident during my job search. I didn’t know a position like this would fit me like a glove: it seems to tie in everything I love. This is absolutely my dream job.
2.What do you enjoy the most about your work?
I love learning about the publishing process. Being an author puts someone in an incredibly vulnerable place. It’s important that those people have the support they need throughout that process and that I give them the tools they need to succeed.
3. What are your favorite books or genre?
In terms of form, I love creative nonfiction, especially lyric essays. I love poetry and short stories as well. Those are also all my favorite genres to write!
4. How do you spend your free time?
In my free time, I roller-dance, prod at the janky code in Sims 2 (also known as the best game in the franchise), and I paint for the sake of painting.
5. If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, who would it be?
Past? James Baldwin. Present? Jericho Brown.
6. What is one thing very few people know about you?
I unironically enjoy country music, and there is nothing you can do about it.
7. How would you define your purpose?
I believe my purpose is to help serve my communities the best I can. I love seeing other black, queer, and disabled people do their thing!
