Tipster Guest: Lisa Corrado, Director Of Author Success

Authors, at the beginning of their writing journey, usually begin with ideas that are narrow. The goal of writing might be just wanting to speak at a particular venue or attract publicity to their work. However, you can make your voice resonate into the world. Use a book as the beginning of something much larger! Expand the voice of the author. THINK BIGGER!!!

Come up with ten really big ideas that seem like a stretch – a dream!!! “Oh my gosh – if I could do that, it would be amazing!” Push yourself to dream larger!

Use the time you have on earth judiciously. Why not imagine a life where you do something you love for 52 weeks each year? Do what brings you passion and joy instead of following all the “shoulds” that dampen your dreams.  Do what feels right to you. If you love it, you CAN accomplish it!

Benefits to thinking beyond the publication date.

  • Thinking about the end result and knowing that the grueling process of writing a book will be over at some point, helps with sanity. Visualize your finished book in your hands when things get particularly stressful or overwhelming.
  • When you’re in the thick of it, think about what you are going to do with your book. What are you going to do next? You get to decide how you are going to use your book. Perhaps your book will launch a new speaking career or generate publicity around the work you’ve done; a stepping stone to bigger and better projects where a book provides credibility for your work; you find more of a voice to promote your platform.
  • Leads to a foundation for a better work situation and bring you work you love:
    • Webinar
    • Keynote presentation
    • Consulting
    • Speaking tour
    • Local bookstore and library tour with interaction with an audience and autograph signing to spread your message or tell your story

Regardless of where you are searching on the Internet you are going to find major discrepancies in the price of services. On one website you’ll see to expect to pay $5 for a book cover and on another website you’ll see $5,000. These ranges can be utterly overwhelming and stop a new author dead in their tracks from proceeding forward.

The information in this guide is based on the cost of producing your book going down a self-publishing path. These numbers are based entirely on our personal experience in helping dozens of authors navigate this space.
